Understanding the Christian Walk
The truth is that, sanctity, purity, holiness, uprightness, righteousness, doing the right things as Christians has become a big challenge to many Christians in the Church today. This is largely because we have not even come to the understanding that this whole thing we call Christianity and our walk with God is a warfare. Many of us are falling into all manner of things. We may not be victorious largely in many things but we are more than conquerors, which is God’s truth concerning us.
In many ways, we have not met the expectations of God not because God has not provided for us the grace to be able to live as the church – those who have been called out from the masses of people, separated unto God, having a lifestyle in away different from the world.
Sometimes when people discover that you go to church, they are surprised because your life has gone beyond duality. Duality has to do with living two separate lives and living them perfectly and people can be masters of that.
In church environments, they are very fine when you turn to the other side they are also very good. Some scriptures and some levels of teaching are completely missing from the church.
Today we are all talking about how to be rich etc. Those who keep persisting that by all means I will get that money, you will by all means do something wrong.
The Wrong Testimony
Nowadays Christian testimony is about the number or worldly things you have.
When was the last time you heard on your radio or television set that a person used to be in a particular lifestyle but thank God, that power has been broken over that person and he is free?
The hunger for spirituality and to know God better has left us largely because we have yielded to the world. We are so weak in spirit that when the devil or the world tempts us, we just give in. When you’re weak physically can you fight?
He said in the day of battle when you fall just know that you are weak. We easily give in in and yield to things.
One truth is that irrespective of the force of God’s word and the power of God’s word and the power of the Holy Ghost to help us, you have a will on which you surrender your will to God. Hebrew 4-15-For we have not a high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
How we will overcome Temptations
Jesus came to earth in a flesh to experience humanity, what it means to be called a human and to face the temptation that human beings face so that when we slip he can understand our slip.
Angels don’t understand what it means to be tempted but they were even tempted and they also fell. This is why David said God knows us. He knows we are weak that’s why he has provided us with strength, but we are not willing to take the strength God has provided us with and become strong.
The entire book of Hebrew makes comparison between Jesus as the son of God in relation to all the things that the Jewish Revered. Everything in the book of Hebrew is to compare Jesus to all the things that the Jews revered. The high priests themselves were also sinful so when they go to sacrifice, they go to sacrifice themselves before the people.
Can one live a life without sin? The answer is yes!
God made provision for forgiveness because sometimes you can slip and make a mistake but we can move from conscious sinners and deliberate sinners if we do not repent.
Heb 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
The infirmity spoken about in Hebrews 4:15 does not refers to the weakness of the human flesh.
How Jesus overcame his temptations is what we want to know because Jesus is the greatest example we have and to give you the basis why we must look up to Jesus is that right in the First century church, there has always been the argument whether Jesus lived here on Earth as man, having the influence of God in him or he was God living here among men. Because if they see the success of Jesus and the fact that he didn’t commit sin, and the fact that he lived in a particular way, it is only God that can live the way he lived. So people had contentions.
You are not just a man
No Jesus was not just a man, yes! He was not just a man like Adam and Eve because he had God dwelling in him like you. If you are a Christian, you are not an ordinary man, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature. You are not the same as you were before, you are different because God has come to take residence in you.
Some of the things you do, if your mother or your sister were to be present, you won’t do it. Because you know it is something wrong. The problem with many people is that they tend to say if I was Jesus then I will be able to overcome, you are Jesus already. Amen! As he is, so are we in this world, he was a man just like us. Jesus was tempted just like us mortals, he could have gone ahead with the temptation but he refused because he remembered he has a journey to complete.
Have you ever been tempted to the point of death? Jesus went through difficult situations and survived. Going to the cross was one of the most difficult thing. We always tend to complain about temptation but has it got to the point where you had to give your life? There are people who have worked for God and they have passed on and are in Heaven. One day you will join them.
Many years ago when my father died I lost my sense of purpose in his world because to me, my aim was to make it and make my father proud. I started to have nasty thoughts about yielding to temptation but I was a Christian. But then I remembered that my father will see me because I believe he is in Heaven. Sometimes some of the things we do as Christians will make someone sit back and conclude by saying that you don’t understand what Christianity is about.
Look at your life and strip off any unnecessary weight dragging you into a ditch.
