The Christian and Temptation Pt 5

Listen to this podcast to renew your mind on temptation

Sources of Temptation: The World

Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

1John 2:15 – 17

The World

The world  that the Bible is reffering to here is not the earth. It has to do with the lifestyle of people, their behavior, their norms and beliefs and how the think or feel things should be done. By those thoughts, the world has been structured in a particular way to behave and dothings in a particular way.

Kinds of Worlds

Worlds are different depending on the pattern of thinking. For example the western world is different from the African world because our thoughts on gayism differ.

In the African world, people may be engaged in it but not publicly because it is frowned upon but in the western world, it is acceptable.

You cannot love the world and at the same time love God.

The Tools of the World

The world is not in clothing but it can mean what the world believes about clothing. In the world one of the tools for promoting a lot of things is sex. Sex is the underlying focus of many products. So many product adverts show things that draw peoples’ minds to sex.

As a Christian, you cannot wear some clothes, you cannot go to some places etc. Do not follow the ways of the world; do it the Christian way which is about modesty.

The world teaches people to bribe their way to the top. It happens in schools, companies etc. It is such that, if a person wants to be honest throughout, that person experiences unnecessary delays.

The world has a system that has made it difficult for those who want to live right to live right and this tempts them to follow the world but one must be careful.

Lust of the Flesh

The world include sexual desires, material desires etc. Desire in General is not a sin but when the desire will lead to evil or sin, that is what the bible calls lust.

Lust: Forbidden desire. Desires that you shouldn’t have. If that desire comes and you do not take heed to it, you have not sinned but if you do then you have sinned.

Lust of the Eyes

The lust of the eyes. Job made a covenant with his eyes.  It have a desire to get something the right way because you saw it is not wrong. The moment you do not have the means but use other wrong means to get it, then that desire has become lust.

Genuine desires will not end in sin. When David saw Bathsheba bathing the desire he had was sinful because Bathsheba was somebody’s wife. As a single you can meet a married man and desire him but the question to ask is if I follow through with this desire, is it wrong or write.

Pride of Life

The Pride of Life. Things that make you feel proud. The things you have, the positions you have, your achievements, social status. If your life is only determined by material things then there is a problem. If you see your value in the things you own it is not right. The value you have is the fact that you are a human being and made in the image of God. All the things you have are just accessories
